BlogThis! Thursday, April 27, 2006 Learning Journey to Kids Kampong! Dear all,We had our 2nd Learning Journey to Kids Kampong on Tuesday, 25th April. It was soooooooooo much fun for the children, parents and myself! I guess you would have already known that as I'm sure the children would be gushing about their wonderful experiences on that day, especially the fish they have caught! I have to commend them on their behaviour that day. Not one child complained about getting wet even though it was drizzling as they were fishing. The children shared with their friends and cooperated with the facilitators during the various activities too. It was definitely a journey filled with hands-on learning and camaraderie. *smiles*I'll like to extend my thanks to Sujtha [Mother of Vignesh], Mrs Tan [Mother of Darren] and Jovyn's helper in helping me throughout the entire learning journey. I appreciate all the assistance =)There were 3 main segments of the Kids Kampong programme, namely'Pets Corner' [Petting/ Looking at animals], 'Fishing', and 'Feeding'.Click here to enjoy the photos that I've taken on that day! Through this day, we want to nurture in our pupils the spirit of friendship and collaboration among different peoples.Last Friday, we celebrated International Friendship Day after the Sports Day. In Kuo Chuan, every class is to adopt a country and decorate it in view of this special day. We decided on Korea, as Jeong Soo would be able to shed us some light on the Korean language as well as to involve him more actively in the class. The children helped mainly in the colouring of pictures.See photos below! Dear all,Some important information first!1. English Oral Examinations [17th and 18th April]All pupils would have received a 'Tips for Oral Exams' and 'Vocabulary List'. Kindly go through the sets of notes with your child in prepation for the upcoming oral exams. This is how marks are allocated. Reading a passage (10 marks)Picture conversation - Describing a picture (6 marks)Sight words - Reading 8 out of 15 words (4 marks).Total (20 marks)2. Change of Spelling DayUpon this request by several parents, I have decided to change the Spelling day to THURSDAY. As I understand that Chinese spellings are tough, this arrangement would give children ample time [a day in between] to study for both Spellings. The remaining spelling days are 20th April, 27th April, 4th May and 11th May.Some other matters1. Sports DayThe Couragers had their very first Sports Day last Friday and I hope that they enjoy it as much as I do taking photos of them. Although there can only be medals for the 1st and 2nd positions, most of the children had good sportsmanship and were happy for their winner friends. Of course there were a handful who were very upset and claimed unfairness. As the children are still young, winning and losing becomes very important to them. I hope that, with the help of parents, we are able to instill in children sportsmanship as well as being able to face and overcome difficulties and failures. This would us develop children with character. =)Click here to view the photos taken during Sports Day!2. Importance of drinking milkThere was a talk on the importance of drinking milk by HL Company. The children had fun dancing the 'Banana' dance and were treated to packets of milk. We drank the milk in class together. Click here for the photos!
